“Arrival and Belonging”

Multi-channel video installation by Michelle Angela Ortiz

Created by artist Michelle Angela Ortiz, "Arrival and Belonging" (2021) is a two-part project commissioned by the Philadelphia Art Museum as part of the "New Grit: Art & Philly Now" exhibition. "Arrival and Belonging" is a large-scale multiscreen video installation with lightboxes and a series of events highlighting the experiences of community members throughout the city.

This installation was made up of 13 synced video monitors and 14 light-boxes. For this project, I assisted Michelle in creating a series of CAD and Photoshop drawings to translate dimensions and video scaling between the artists and collaborators working on the installation. I also assisted in assembling and syncing the video monitors using a Blue Fin video system for playback in the museum.

"Seguimos Caminando"

Projection mapped video installation by Michelle Angela Ortiz

As part of the Mural Arts Project’s and Monument LAB, Michelle Angela Ortiz created a moving mural called Seguimos Caminando (We Keep Walking) that was created as a installation to be projected every weekend for one month on the side of Philadelphia’s City Hall. For this project, I worked with video artist Jeff Bethea to projection map original animation and artwork created by Michelle and animator Jose Mazariegos onto the surfaces of the City Hall columns

Quizás Mañana

Projection mapped video installation by Michelle Angela Ortiz

Michelle Angela Ortiz is a muralist, visual artist and arts educator whose work centers around communities whose histories are often lost or co-opted. I helped Michelle bring her vision of mixing traditional mural art and animation by video projection mapping artwork created by Michelle and animator Jose Mazariegos onto the gallery wall of Taller Puertorriqueño in Philadelphia.
